Ten Silver Carabaos We're having chicken for breakfast again today. Papa usually likes his sunny side up while Bimbim and I like ours scrambled. Virgil is too young to eat real food yet mommy says. I pull out my hanky from my pocket to wipe the ketchup that dripped down my chin and read the printed letters on it out loud Saturday. Its market day today I tell Papa; he looks up from the newspaper he's reading and smiles. I smile back, because I know that he is going to take me with them to the market. | Everyone has a story to tell. This is the way Vanessa Glenda knows life: seen through layers of grounded glass and forged metal, cathartic thoughts, ink and paper, and skin on skin. Vanessa has an almost visceral need to create. She watches the world intently; her senses starved. She watches the life around her because she feels life watching her in return. Vanessa tells stories; this is what she does best. She is an image maker and a wordsmith with a deep perception of the human condition. She has an intense and untethered energy which makes her work intimate and affecting. She lends to her craft an acute understanding of light, color and emotion. Hers is the daily challenge of choosing which moments to keep alive forever. To remember is a gift. Remembering all that is light, thought, sound, texture, taste and feeling. An Ęsthete is a lover of all things beautiful. Vanessa is such. This is all she knows. This is all she is. There is only this, and nothing more. |
